Have we got your attention? Here are some things that will suprise you!

You don’t have to become an eco warrior to make a difference to global warming

The environment is one of the hottest topics at the moment and we have global warning, our impact on the planet. To thank for that, in October 2006, Tony Blair made the situation clear in his comments on the Stern Review on the economics of climate change.

The scientific evidence of global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions is now overwhelming. It is not in doubt that if the science is right, the consequences for our planet are literally disastrous and this disaster is not set to happen in some scientific-fiction future, many years ahead, but in our lifetime’

The homes we live in here in the UK are among the most energy inefficient in northern Europe. That doesn’t just mean you’re paying to heat your street, you’re also wasting resources and contributing to global warming. We all are.

The nations of the world need to act together to control and reduce carbon emissions, but every one of us can make a difference too, every day – at home and at work, when we’re travelling. In the UK we each throw away £424 worth of food and produce 10.8 tons of greenhouse gases every year.

What's your Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is the measure of each person’s impact on the environment in terms of how much greenhouse gas they produce. The measurement is made in units of carbon dioxide.

If you go to carbonfootprint.com you can use their carbon footprint calculator to workout your own carbon footprint and find tips on how to reduce or offset it. For example you can offset it by investing in companies that are developing renewable technologies, and by planting a tree – they breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. By reducing your carbon footprint and offsetting the remainder - by investing in sustainable projects – you can have a carbon- neutral lifestyle. The band Coldplay made their 2002 album, Rush of Blood to the Head, carbon neutral by planting 10,000 mango trees in India.
